Former Contractor - Adjunct Faculty in Asheville, NC

I worked at The University of North Carolina System for more than 5 years

    Pros

The best thing about being an adjunct faculty member is the academic freedom to create courses based on the things that excite you. I experienced tremendous academic freedom at UNCAsheville and support from my department chairs.

    Cons

Adjuncts everywhere work for horrifically low wages but I simply couldn't continue when the system would not agree to pay for an academic conference that my students and I were invited to participate in. It just drove home how little my work was valued by the administration versus the students.
