Pros
The work is intriguing and exciting. I meet new and intriguing individuals and visit a great variety of new companies and industries every week. I have been in manufacturing plants, schools, design and engineering firms and many companies working in industries and fields I didn't know existed. It's a great job for anyone who enjoys learning about companies and industries. NEIS is great to work for, everyone from my direct supervisor to all the office staff I have worked with are very friendly, professional and always ready to answer any audit question I have. I have never felt that I was asking a question that made me look bad or unskilled. The reviewers are there to help you, and correct small errors in your work, not just reject audits and send them back. They are always willing to share their expertise. It is great knowing all the years of combined experience is behind you. I truly wish I had discovered NEIS years earlier.
Cons
I work as an independent auditor from my home office, so you need to be self disciplined and very organized about scheduling and getting audits completed, written up and submitted. I love working this way, but some individuals need more direct guidance on a daily basis
