Pros

Pay. Nothing Else. Honestly thats the only pro i can state.

Cons

Too much work for sales assistants (if you work for the company you know what i mean). Doing managerial jobs which are the managements responsibility such as C dates, rotation, running shifts, covering shifts etc. And we dont get anything extra for it unlike management who get a salary and duties who get an extra £1 an hour. Having to come to work in the morning when your sick because you start at the same time as the manager at 6.00am and because Lidl only provide 1 or 2 staff member apart from the manager to work the delivery. And you cannot go home mid shift but make you work the entire shift. Pulling heavy pallets, preping the bake, working the ambient, cleaning breakages and doing priorities all while running up and down to serve customers on the till who get very angry because they had to wait before they could be served. Long queus of customers all very angry. You never finish your shift on time whether its because they cash you up late or they force you to stay longer. Breaks are not given and you are forced to work long 12 14 hour shifts non stop. If you do get a break by chance they are never long anough normally 15mins and are always interupted by management. You are also not allowed to leave the store when its only 1 on 1 staff. Having to clean toilets even though that was not part of the job description. The company just piles more and more work. Hygiene issues. No uniform given! Iv been wearing the same shirt for nearly 2 years because Lidl will not supply the store with more uniform! Managers get the easy shifts and jobs were as sales assistants have to work all the weekends, bank holidays, xmas eve, new years eve and wednesday and sunday closes which are Lidls setup days. Managers favour management. Having to play security although its not my job and puts my safety at risk. And yes people do pull out weapons in store. And any loss shown after inventories is automatically put on the heads of sales assistants. Managers clock you out before you finish so that their prod points do not get affected. We lose out a heck of alot of money and we cannot do anything about it as the company turns a blind eye! The employee survey in 2014 was a complete joke as managers forced employees to take part and we even was forced to write what they wanted. A complete joke because in all my time i know Lidl does not listen or care for its staff. Managers get bonuses, company cars, extra holidays, free healthcare and all we sales assistants get is a crappy discount card! Sales assistants are the ones who do all the work and management are the ones getting all the rewards! You do not get overtime rate, double pay or night right. Just one rate for everything. Therefore the hourly rate Lidl provides is much worse than any other company. For example Asda provide double discount days, bonuses, gift cards, night rate, double pay, triple pay on queens jubilee and the rotal wedding. Lidl sucks. No canteen facilities, even the microwave is broken. Meaning no hot food or drink. No lockers as they are all broken beyond repair. managers not letting you count the tills so that if your down it goes against you. Cameras literally outside the canteen with a clear view inside. Feel watched all the time even in the warehouse. The till speed is always monitored as is all if the till actions taking place. Managers screaming and shouting at staff which is deeply dehumanising and makes you want to crawl up into a little ball. Customers often feel its also wrong but they do not care as long as their shopping is off the till and back into the trolley. Holidays magically dissappear even though you booked them months in advance. NO TRAINING GIVEN TO NEW STARTERS! Iv been with the company 6 years and seen new starters face hell!

Pros

Benefits are excellent, most people at the peer level are great. Clear performance expectations. Decent cross functional communication

Cons

Company leadership very European and doesn't quite understand the American consumer even after being in the US so long. Unreasonable expectations are the norm. No upward mobility unless you are European or speak fluent German.
