    Pros

    The Coupa culture is by far the most differentiating characteristic. The concept alone promotes a unique dynamic between you and your colleagues, one of personal accountability, a bias for action, and a call to stay at task. The inverted org managerial style cultivates personal growth and a mentor-like relationship with management that is far more collaborative vs a more traditional hierarchy. Our recruiting style also reflects our culture and we continuously grow our team with high-quality top performers, innovators, and thought leaders who keep us on the cutting edge, but who also exhibit humility, honesty, and strong leadership skills. Compensation reflects our success, strong performers have room to grow and expand their careers, and the opportunity to carve your own path is there for you to take it. Diversity, acceptance, and tolerance are greatly valued and many charitable opportunities are made possible through the Coupa Cares team. You will always be pushed but also empowered to do your best, and reach further than your goals.

    Cons

    Coupa grows through acquisition, and the pace at which we acquire new technology is currently at lightning speed. If you can't roll with constant change and work through varying levels of structure with the right mindset this might not be the Village for you. Being a part of the Coupa Village means being willing, again and again, to step outside of your comfort zone and go above and beyond the call of duty. There is no room here for complacency or mediocracy, there are no participation trophies, authneticy is a must.

    I worked at Coupa Software Inc full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    No real competitors so far Feature rich product Stable business with lots of opportunities Exposure to different technologies

    Cons

    * Sharp division between software engineers and operations team. Operations team members are called "SRE", but in reality they mostly work on tickets and do very little impactful work - no coding and very little involvement in infrastructure projects * too many processes to get things done * too many meetings where you'd sit on mute with camera off * they call it "an inverted org structure" - but in reality it's a very top down hierarchical organization * more managers than engineers and they keep hiring managers and adding more management layers * lots of tech debt and no plans to address them. more priorities given to new features and making customers happy. However this results in a requirement to hire more and more operations people to handle incidents and deal with ever growing number of customers * lots of aggressive people who would literally "scream" at you in tickets

At Coupa, we have a strong DevOps approach with collaboration between developers and cloud operations to deliver products with rapid speed and innovation. Projects can be led by and coded by engineers in either area depending on the subject matter expertise and technology. As with our peer companies, we have career tracks for Site Reliability Engineers who are passionate about either coding or systems. We always endeavor to find a balance between process to scale and agility to innovate. We agree with not over-rotating on processes or meetings. The inverted org structure allows employees to grow in their function by having managers support rather than stifle their efforts. Additionally, the core values provide a common set of principles for All Of Us to work together. I'm sorry that you had this experience and wish you had worked with your manager on some of these concerns before departing in such a short period. I have also forwarded this to our leadership team. We wish you the best in your future endeavors.

    Good salary and benefits, good location, many pto days, onboarding at the HQ,

    Cons

    As to the sales teams based in Dublin, be aware that there are more mature markets (UK/I and maybe France) whereas some markets like DACH and Iberia need a lot of work. The latter lack in solid marketing investments to generate inbound and outbound activities. The partner ecosystems in those regions are weak. The pipe and sales expectations are quite high but the means to reach those targets are not given to SDRs and AEs. Coupa is an expensive software that has long integration times and the overall sales cycle is large, SDRs and sales targets cannot be reached through bad designed outbound activities only as expected. Competition against SAP is though especially in some regions so be aware of that.

    A decent product, good salary

    Cons

    Too many to name. Bullying mentality from managers and team leaders (even when you have announced your resignation) micro management and no empathy. Expects the world and the moon in terms of results and KPIs ( during a pandemic and recession!) Passive aggressive behaviour from managers and team leaders ripe in this company. Forget about being promoted - nobody gets promoted here. Incredibly inward looking (seem to have no idea what's going on outside the company both economically and socially and that there are far better competitive companies to work for with better products attracting talent..)
