The mission is needed even more now!

      Pros

The incredible commitment to mission at every level of the organization. It’s especially fulfilling and humbling to serve the frontline care givers who are the hands and feet of Jesus in such tangible ways. Grateful for the thoughtful and responsible strategic plan that is in place which also honors the complexity of what it takes to successfully release children from poverty in Jesus’ name.

      Cons

When the vision is compelling and so much good to be done, it’s hard to focus on the most important work that generates the most progress. At times, this leads to unsustainable commitment on the part ministry.

      Pros

God is at work in this ministry, and continues to be placed at the center of the work. By in large, teams are healthy, supported by good leaders, and striving to get better. There are opportunities for growth. Pay is fair and the benefits are excellent. Remote working flexibility is excellent and conveys great trust in employees.

      Cons

movement is slow, and initiatives are often pushed out the door quickly but not supported enough to be successful, leaving staff reluctant to get on board with change.

Great people, incredible mission, good employee benefits, slow to innovate

      Pros

Compassion knows how to care for employees. They care for their employees in both the traditional sense (paying fairly, health care, PTO) and in the way that goes above and beyond (weekly spiritual devotionals/chapels, retirement contributions, adoption reimbursement, anniversary trips to program countries, empathy/encouragement/employee engagement). They are devoted to the child-focused mission and try their best to walk the fine line of ministry and business. They like to promote from within while bringing fresh talent on consistently.

      Cons

Compassion has historically been slow to innovate, both with technology and business practices. They're trying, and it's working. However, it can take a long time to steer such a big (awesome) ship in a different direction, sometimes putting undue stress and frustration on individual employees. Sometimes it was hard working with Christians. It was always a bigger letdown when your coworker or leader acted selfishly or deviously, but it was also a reminder that we're all on the path to sanctification and are not there yet.

      Pros

Great Mission everybody marches in the same direction good salary great benefits

      Cons

It was disappointing to find out that my manager was more concerned about the fact that she would look bad rather than embrace a new employee who has ideas to save the ministry money which of course is all donation-based.

      Pros

This is a great ministry with a concrete mission. The work is compelling, the opportunities are huge, and the staff is great.

      Cons

Lack of transparent communication among various departments creates some grumbling in pockets of the ministry. Ultimately, people feel squeezed to do more with less resources, but this is just a reality of the nonprofit world. Many are coming to Compassion from the for-profit world and believe they are entering paradise, which creates problems when reality hits.

Leadership at the Global Ministry Center in Colorado Springs, especially in the HR, Legal, and Global Leadership Office are "empty suits" with little integrity.

      Pros

      - Absolutely incredible program with proven effectiveness, makes it easy to come to work - Some incredible people and teams - New-ish CEO Jimmy Mellado has great vision and strategic leadership for the organization

      Cons

      - As a young professional, trying to "climb the corporate ladder" is nigh impossible - Only one female on the executive team - A large organization, but still has a small "ministry" mindset which can come in the way of progress - Can be difficult to finish projects in a timely manner, there are many roadblocks and too many people involved sometimes

      Pros

It is truly such an honor to get to work at Compassion. I tell people that Compassion works with the excellence of a fortune 500 company, but with the warmth and purpose of the finest ministry you've ever known. I have found that Compassion is a place that strives to be a healthy environment for each person. By putting cultural behaviors in place, I've been inspired and encourage to be a better follower of Jesus, doing the most important work with excellence.

      Cons

I am yet to find a con. Truly. This is the best job I've ever had.

      Pros

Wonderful ministry! If you want to work for a purpose you have one at Compassion! Great benefits and they pride themselves on their work perks.

      Cons

Compassion has a "culture" of walking on eggshells and not "making waves." If you have confrontation with someone else it's almost better to not bring it up and push it down. My boss didn't hire me after my temp was up because the other temp who wanted the job caused problems. I've tried to apply several times in the last year for the Same job I had as a temp and I get rejected every time. They also push networking because who you know and where helps get you back in. It was a stuffy clique of Christians if I ever saw one and certain christians aren't good enough for Comfort assign culture... whatever that is.
