I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great diversity of talent. Opportunity to shape your own career path. Interesting work.

    Cons

Lots of churn at senior leadership level.

    Advice to Management

Not all managers are “leaders”. Not all leaders are managers.

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

Innovative. Can do attitude. Good products

    Cons

Lost it's way. Lack of respect for older/long term employees. New management very ruthless.

    Advice to Management

Don't discard the experienced work force that made this company great. You get what you pay for - lower younger less experienced work force will deliver exactly that. Stop worrying about constant cost cutting and bring back the excellence and innovation. The competition is catching up fast and new management is stuck in it's old ways. Time to change the leadership team

I worked at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

Good process, nice people, very collaborative and flexible, good work-life balance.

    Cons

Nothing too negative about it. Some manager' style was not seen as professional and fair, but most were good.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time

    Pros

    - Work from home policy is very flexible
    - Possibility to take leaves on a very short notice
    - Option available to buy more leaves
    - Any equipment that is needed for work can be ordered without any scrutiny.
    - Convenient location if driving from eastern part of county.
    - Work/life balance is acceptable. There is almost never any pressure to stay beyond normal working hours.
    - Great involvement in local community projects and charity organizations.
    - People are genuinely very nice and fun to work with.
    - Sports and Social club does a good job organising events throughout the year; there is however a membership fee to participate.
    - On top of the above there is a separate fund to organize team outings every quarter which are always good fun.
    - A lot of attention is given to constantly monitor and improve coffee machines.

    Cons

    - Strange location for an IT company, in the middle of an industrial park, outside of town. Not a very pleasant place to go for a walk with trucks and forklifts roaming around. Oranmore village is at least 20 min walk away, which is a bit far if one wants to go out for lunch. That's also where the bus stop is, so it's something to consider if using public transport to get to work.

     - Canteen is very bad. The catering staff are trying their best, but are very limited with what they can do because the kitchen is very badly fitted out, so they can’t prepare any half decent meals.

    - Cisco is ultimately a sales, not an engineering company so while good engineering practises are appreciated by some, it’s not what necessarily gets people promoted.

    - Salary, promotions and opportunities are good if one knows how to play the game and gets noticed by the right people.

    - A somewhat weird/cringy ‘we are an amazing company’ attitude from some people. It’s disheartening how much self-affirmation we received from winning the somewhat irrelevant ‘Great Place to Work’ survey last year while conveniently forgetting that we were competing against some small insignificant companies. We are unlikely to stand a chance if the top US software companies (i.e. companies we should really be compared with) decided to participate in a survey like that. There was a time when they decided to start giving us a free bowl of fruit every day, which is a great initiative if it wasn't sold to us as the greatest thing ever i.e. on the same level of getting a free house.

    - Because we don't really having any real proper competition in Galway, the company gets settled in the virtual security offered by ‘we are good enough for Galway’ mindset that hinders any effort or initiative to continuously improve and yet wonders why it is so difficult to attract experienced people in the field to work here.

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Good work life balance, flexibility for family issues
Good support system and technical challenging
Good spirit of trust and personal responsibility

    Cons

Cisco doesn't do "big bets" ala Amazon or others to try to grab a new market
Need to have full stack so decisions can be made and directed locally

    Advice to Management

There is alot of loyalty in staff to Cisco due to good conditions and working environment.
But the collary to that is we lack new blood to bring new ideas and shake up the groupthink

I have been working at Cisco Systems full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

great work life balance. Different projects to work on monthly. A clear career path.

    Cons

Working in a global company means working global hours sometimes which can be awkward at times. Cisco is currently in a transitional period, the road we are going is not yet clear to me.

    Advice to Management

I am buying into the new road we are taking but wondering are we turning a bit slowly and by thetime we get to where we want will the end goal have already started to pivot elsewhere
