I worked at Canadian Blood Services full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great teammates. Good relationships with other groups/departments. Always something to do or learn. Management was easy to deal with and were supportive.

    Cons

Always asked to do more with less, which is understandable but it didn't seem to be applied equally across the organization. Also several projects get started and end up going no where after spending considerable amount of time/resources. Not a whole lot of room to advance in the IT departments, if that's what you're looking to do.

    Advice to Management

None. Keep up the good work.

    Positive Outlook

I have been working at Canadian Blood Services full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

    - Great cause, blood donors tend to be lovely people. - Pay is fair, not great - but good benefits for full-time permanent staff

    Cons

    - Staff morale continually low and disgruntled, often an unpleasant working environment - Confusion between head office direction and regional autonomy; makes it unclear who has decision-making power and so projects tend to stall indefinitely - Endless restructuring threatens job stability for most roles/departments - Many long-term managers/directors that are just there to collect their paycheque and pension contributions

I have been working at Canadian Blood Services part-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Wages are ok. Benefits are good

    Cons

Management doesnt listen to employees. Employees are treated differently depending on which supervisor they have. More and more duties assigned but no increase in pay. Split shifts, evenings and out of town clinics. You are expected to go on out of town clinics even when travel is not recommended. Bus is not made for hiway travel and is cold and bumpy. Management has no empathy for family issues. Every problem is front end staffs fault even though we have no control over number of donors. I could go on and on. It is a very toxic workplace and morale is low

    Advice to Management

Listen to your staff. Treat people fairly. Quit hiring supervisors that are nurses and hire people that are trained to be managers

    No Opinion of CEO

I worked at Canadian Blood Services part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Union support and pay isnt bad.

    Cons

All DCA's are hired PT. You can work more hours but not increase your FTE. Bullying by direct supervisors. Revolving door with new employees coming and going. Micromanaging of employees. Focus is on job performance and monthly stats.

    Advice to Management

Let staff do their jobs. Dont worry about the little stuff and stop the the nit-picking.

I worked at Canadian Blood Services full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great People and Good Ideas (but poor execution)

    Cons

Many folks promoted into jobs they are not suited for. Internal promotions are given due to tenure...that is not what is best for the company.

    Advice to Management

Set up a Corporate PMO that has clout and make sure it is used. Time to clean house any drop lots of the deadwood even if it will cost you severance packages!!
