Pros
Great very good company to work with
Cons
It's a large company so have to deal with that

Pros
Overall it has been a good company to work for. Great learning opportunities, but have to be self-taught and self-driven. Pay is market rate.
Cons
Company has been bought out by Jacobs Engineering. This is a takeover, not a merger. CH2M is done by the end of the year. We can hope that Jacobs will be kind to IT, but hope is all we have. Some are staying to see what happens, but many have already made a run for it. Trustworthy information about our future is hard to come by.

Pros
Overall good company reputation of CH2MHill based on their work on large infrastructure projects primarily for the government. Nice offices.
Cons
Poor execution of downsizing of offices, total lack of communication with employees, particularly department managers who had to dismiss these employees (weren't consulted with on whom should be included in layoffs, who should be kept around to complete projects, etc.). Lack of company executive familiarity with profit margins associated with various industries, only seem to be familiar with government project margins.

Pros
It was a good company and still is. It's just now owned by a really big company that puts numbers first.
Cons
Jacobs now owns CH2M and is hacking away at jobs for profit. A lot of jobs are being transitioned to Poland and India. If you are a subcontractor wanting to get paid, you have a hard time getting an answer to when you will get paid. Subs need to read their contracts and know their contract terms. Don't settle for Paid when Paid terms.

Pros
With less than 5 years at this company, I'm accrue just over three weeks of vacation time a year. Overall a good company to work for.
Cons
This company places a lot of emphasis on paperwork that doesn't have anything to do with the job. Just a means to check a box showing something was completed.

Hopefully in a turnaround after a rough couple of years

The people are smart, energetic, and technologically savvy. Benefits are very good. Company places high value on ethics and integrity. Employee owned!
Cons
Our industry continues to suffer in the wake of the recession -- overheads are constantly being cut. Some of the fun has left the culture.

Good to start but give up on advancing anywhere.

A good company to start a career with, at least to get an idea how not to do things. There are a few people with a ton of esperience to learn from.
Cons
The company pays significantly lower than the average starting salary. The company designates you as salary but pays you hourly. CH2M treats its different business groups differently with the office in Denver having the greatest "perks". Some divisions get a pension while others get only 401k. They will lay you off, dont believe what the hiring managers tell you about not laying anyone off. The will ship you to jobs away from home and expect you to pay for the extra expense of living in a higher cost of living area. CH2M HILL will cut you to less than 20 hrs a week even though you are a "salary" employee. They will tell you that they are splitting the work between employees so that everyone has the same hrs yet some are still working full time while others are working none. The managers get paid enormously while the engineers that make the company money are scraping by. They will hire you for a specific job where you have potential to help them and then lay you off when that job is finished. The company is completely disorganized with their standards and practices between groups. There is a enormous amount of Nepotism and Cronyism within the company as well. So if you dont know someone, go to their church, friends with their family, went to their college or are married to one of their family members you might as well give up going anywhere within the company.

No longer a good company

Ch2m Hill used to be a good company to work for. It had a great culture and they cared about the employees. Now it is only about the bottom line and taking away everything that once made this a great place to work.
Cons
Management, culture. This is the most negative work environment I've ever been in. Coworkers confided that they took antidepressants to cope with their jobs or would go home and cry. Horrible management - bad communication, unrealistic expectations, and no positive reinforcement, only drilling in the negative.

Pros
Good company benefits. Good supervisors, healty work culture. Flexible time schedules. IDP program in the company for development and sharpening of skills is very good.
Cons
Consulting work culture. Promotions are slow. Need to travel to different client sites and adopt their company culture which can get some times challenging.
