I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Excellent freedom to work; Very good leadership in Head Quarters local and front line leadership

    Cons

The Bangalore Technology center is filled with toothless leadership at highest level and one level below. There appears no value addition by this set of so called leaders as they dont do any work. Front line managers add good value.

    Advice to Management

Do justice to your salaries. Don't be always at 2500000 feet. Come to ground level to really understand what is happening.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Broad vision, global team and resources, interesting and challenging projects, lots of expertise. Probably considered of the best places to work in the area (and maybe Italy)

    Cons

Salary not proportioned to the experience and to the pressure if you work on projects. Once you start with the company, growing is very slow. Too much attention to KPI missing the true objective sometimes

    Advice to Management

Less and more meaningful metrics with a true attention to quality and people. Value the people.

I worked at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Great environment to learn everything since most projects are delivered on site not completed. Also, field people tend to be real professionals and you can easily make long lasting friendships. And you will need those friendships when you'll be stuck in God knows what site in a weekend or a public holiday in the country of the design engineer for the project with a customer that's screaming at you and throwing... numbers as losses.

    Cons

Overtime pay was ditched, no integrity in most of the middle management, HR doesn't care about people, only to make execs happy. Pretty much if you submit an integrity report, expect to be ditched, it's way more easy to look for another more relaxed and better paid job and really enjoy your work without unnecessary phone meetings where you need to thoroughly educate middle management so they can understand the... issues at hand.

    Advice to Management

They are too infatuated to accept any, that's why the company it's in the current condition.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The projects are interesting and allow for creativity. The coworkers are largely easy to get along with and are professional. The pay and benefits packages are competitive for the industry.

    Cons

Management decisions are heavily weighted towards the next quarter and employ short sighted financial engineering practices that harms long term performance of the company. There is little communication between middle and upper managers and directives from one group can clash with rules and procedures of another group. The company does not respect older employees and will think nothing of laying off a 30 year... service employee and replacing them with an inexperienced 2 year service employee. The company does not respect its suppliers and will distribute IP from one supplier to another to try and create competition and drive down procurement costs. Also they try to push asinine 120 day payment terms onto suppliers who expect to be paid in 30 days.

    Advice to Management

Think in one and five year terms instead of the next quarterly report. Treat all stakeholders (employees, suppliers, customers) with respect. Aka Conscious Capitalism. Communicate your plans explicitly across all groups so they’re marching in the same direction. Fast works won’t work when it takes a month to just get a vendor setup to receive a PO.

I have been working at Baker Hughes full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

The company has a great culture in which researchers work across the aisle and collaborate as much as possible.

    Cons

The compensation is not reflective of the uncertainty in the market, i.e., oil field risks come with oil field compensation whereas currently the compensation is comparable for research but has the same risk as working in the oilfield

    Advice to Management

Ditch the overall jargon words and boost research into disruptive tech for the customers
