      Pros

Focused on company culture. They value employees. Support professional and personal growth. Benefits COMPLETELY covered - zero cost to me. Always snacks. SWAG..such as Allbirds. Always encourage and protect PTO. Our team genuinely likes hanging out with each other. We all truly want to see each other succeed. A Bainie never lets another bainie fail.

      Cons

Literally cannot think of any cons. This is the best company I have EVER worked for.

      Welcome to Bain

      Business Outlook

      Pros

Welcome to Bain. I'm going to give you a problem that neither the CEO nor his entire management team could solve. And I'm probably going to give you lots of different opinions and imperfect data sources. And then I'll ask you to focus in on where the most value is and convince all those people with different opinions that you're right. But don't worry, I'm also going to give you a Bain team. Those associates and consultants are going to be tenacious in coming up with creative approaches. Those managers and partners are going to knock down barriers for you, connect you where you need to be connected, guide, support, direct and re-direct you. The office support staff is going to fix your computer after you spilled coffee on it for the third time, find you the unfindable data source, and smile and hand you a baked good after you ask for help re-doing dozens of slides. You are empowered and accountable but you are not alone. And the best part is you can't fail. Because after all, what all those people are reinforcing is that a Bainie never lets another Bainie fail.

      Cons

Here's how you know you've made it at Bain. The reward for doing a good job is getting a bigger, tougher problem next time. Meaning, you are always solving the easiest problem you will ever solve again. This takes a lot of resilience and active managing of self-expectations to remember that you are not actually getting worse, the problems are just getting harder. So my advice is to remember that. And then take a second to realize that it would be a lot less fun if the reverse were true. And isn't that precisely why you wanted this job in the first place anyway? It sure was for me.

      Review for business functions

      Pros

Not being a consultant, There are a lot of opportunities to learn and grow. Interacting with the consultants and other areas of the company, give a great perspective to how an international firm operates. There’s great training and exposure to the business acumen that is honed by the consulting team. Working here, is business school for everybody at the firm. The firm has great HR support, and great resources to support you and your family to balance life and work.

      Cons

The firm is growing, and with that comes growing pains. Time will tell if this will be a consistent, normal, or if there will be a certain plateau or settling out of these changes. Well expected, this constant change, adds an extra layer to tasks and roles, which is a new thing we’re adapting to.

      Pros

Bain Chicago culture is very welcoming and supportive (A Bainie never lets another Bainie fail is a part of Bain's operating principles, and we actually live by that day to day!) Teams are full of really smart and hard working people from all sorts of academic and prior career backgrounds, so you can learn a lot from other people

      Cons

Fast-paced work can sometimes lead to burnout

The best place to start your career

      Pros

I loved working at Bain. It wasn't always fun or easy, but the quality and character of the people you work with is the best I've worked with, even since leaving. You also get to work on deeply interesting projects. If a client is going to be spend $1M+ for 4 weeks of work, then you know it's going to be something that's top priority for them

      Cons

Sometimes, this is an 80+ hour week / job (I averaged 55 hours on non-holiday / non-vacation weeks).

      Pros

Great people, rapid learning, great exit opportunities

      Cons

Always-on culture makes finding balance challenging, particularly for parents. It's very difficult to consistently be offline a specific times (like kid dinner and bedtime)
