    I worked at Atkins

    Pros

Excellent Team, Good Promotion Opportunities, Management is very experienced and has a lot to offer the team. Compensation for further education. Very good lunch hour presentations that count for CPD credit about once a month.

    Cons

Relatively low compensation, None of the UK benefits apply to this branch. The general office procedures are left for you to figure out as there is no formal induction.

    Advice to Management

Give more feedback on performance. Hold on to the talented individuals that you employ. Continue to schedule the lunchtime seminars.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

A Global company with reach all around the world. A person with at least 5-7 years experience will really thrive in the environment that has been built here for the past 5 years. A lot of big major schemes and a decent pay package depending on wealth of experience and willingness to work hard.

    Cons

This is nt a great company to work as a graduate, the graduate programme isnt as structured as they make it out to be, although i think this is most engineering companies. The pay doesnt really move up as much for graduates and thus after 4 years of working with the company it seems to get a better pay package a move elsewhere is required. Although people tell you not to work for money, Some of us do have... responsibilities outside of work that require money.

    Advice to Management

Pay your staff that put in the effort a lot more money. Give bonuses to deserving staff. Stop sending all of the work to the GDC, younger graduates require technical work to be good engineers, its not a hard concept to comprehend.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Fast paced environment in the Energy part of the business. Diverse projects, good engineers. Lots of opportunity for advancement if you work hard

    Cons

The pay could be better. The main way to make decent money is to climb the corporate ladder rather than the technical one.

    Advice to Management

Don't allow the environment to become too corporate. With the takeover by SNC we are in danger of losing some of the Atkins culture

I worked at Atkins full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good projects at the time and good learning through them. However you have to try hard to get an opportunity to work in those good projects.

    Cons

Poor management, some people were working more than they should , and some other didn’t have work to do. No opportunities to develop, no pay rises, very bad working environment, very bad building facilities.

    Advice to Management

Take care of your people and improve working environment.

I have been working at Atkins full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible Working. Ability to transfer to other locations and businesses within the company (if you push for it). Transportation graduate secondment to India for 3 months is available though this has recently been restricted with regards to leave taken during, before and after the secondment.

    Cons

Pay is poor. Work is often on large and repetitive projects with little innovation and can become very stale. Pay rises are often disappointing. Progression is very slow when you start as a graduate engineer and becoming chartered is a glass ceiling to progressing.

    Advice to Management

There is a very high staff turnover at the moment which hopefully demonstrates that work is needed. Pay needs to be increased across the board for early careers at least. Projects should be selected in part on prestige, innovation and interest rather than on a purely profit basis.
