I have been working at Appen part-time for less than a year

    Pros

the usual pros that online work provides

    Cons

Unsatisfactory communication from management, still waiting for a response about work that has mysteriously terminated and with no record to be seen of the work completed or payment owed, very worrying. The rate of pay is per utterance and at $10-14 ph is unrealistic. It's more like $7 ph.

    Pros

They do not take taxes out of the payments, so you will have to owe taxes. You only get paid once per month.

I have been working at Appen full-time for less than a year

    Pros

In an uncertain world, I'm glad to have a professional home in Appen. The business operates smoothly in the remote-world that we now find ourselves in with little interruption to the engaging work. There is a successful mix of long-serving employees who bring experience and expertise in highly specialized areas of linguistics, computational science, data science and operations. This is mixed with many new employees who bring broad industry experience. In my experience, staff are willing to engage, listen, learn and just generally be better. There is an international footprint and fast-moving customers both of which make for a fast pace; you can find yourself in long days if you don't keep balance top of mind. General well being and work/life balance is encouraged; you're in charge of it and of your own success I've found.

    Cons

COVID is making everything more challenging, so in-person contact is low atm.

I have been working at Appen part-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Flexible hours 1-2 year project lifespan (depending) Can make a decent living wage if on the right project

    Cons

Jobs can end at any time, even without warning Not a lot of job opportunities Low pay for long hours No benefits since it's part-time Upper management on projects changes constantly Feedback and information is lacking overall Frequent glitches in the SRT tool that can reduce work No compensation for when issues do occur on Appen's end, you just lose money

I have been working at Appen full-time for less than a year

    Pros

I have been working at Appen for over 6 months full-time and the biggest asset the company has is the people. I have been impressed by how professional, knowledgeable and personable every one is; it was particularly important to me to get proper support and training when I first started working at Appen and that is exactly what I got. Appen equips you with the tools to succeed in your role and the peers are just one of the most wonderful people you will every get to work with.

    Cons

Working hours are very fluid. Since we work with clients across the entire globe, I have found myself working late in the evenings or very early in the mornings. This is compensated by the fact that otherwise there is a lot of flexibility regarding how you want to distribute your working hours during the day, which makes it much easier to run small errands etc. when needed.
