Pros

- Rewarding work promoting the deployment of renewable energy. Work is varied and technical, and builds an understanding of the entire process of wind farm development - Employees are very intelligent, helpful, and some of the nicest people that I've met - Management is not overbearing and trusts you to do what you need to do. Apex holds weekly company meetings where management gives updates about recent progress or setbacks. Annual company meetings, usually held at a nearby vineyard, give a holistic and transparent overview of the state of the company and its finances. -Great company culture. Very active - lots of standing desks, people biking to work. Company sports teams. Happy hours. People are somehow laid-back, but motivated and hard-working at the same time. -Good work-life balance 85% of the time. Many people get in a bit early and are out at 5 o'clock sharp almost every day. Never encountered any expectation to be on email during off hours or vacation. (All of this may vary across departments.) -Free snacks! Lara bars, cliff bars, fresh fruit, honest tea, etc. Catered breakfast weekly -Have not encountered any of the "reverse ageism" or skew towards older employees mentioned by another reviewer. I'm probably coming across as a cheerleader, but this is my honest opinion after working at Apex for about two years.

Cons

- Smaller company means more limited upward mobility compared to a large company -Compensation is middling. Pay in the wind industry is likely lower than comparable roles in oil and gas, but that may change with the shift to renewable energy

No room to grow

Pros

The team spirit in some departments it admirable.

Cons

Zero room for growth. They will only hire very experienced individuals to fill positions and never consider current employees who wish to grow. Absolutely horrible communication from "management" within departments to their staff. These "managers" are individuals who just happen to have been there the longest and do not necessarily have the skills necessary to manage their group.

A Company With Great Ideals But Poor Follow Through

Pros

- Great benefits including 401k match, snacks and beverages, gym memberships, fitness incentives, and "unlimited" PTO. - Weekly meetings updating the company on the status of projects and the energy industry as a whole. - People who are all working together to drive a shift to clean energy and better the environment. - Opportunities to attend conferences. - Downtown office location. - A progressive work environment with a strong sense of community. - Ability to work remotely.

Cons

- Promotes a work-life balance but favors employees who work far beyond a reasonable expectation. There should not be any expectation for anyone to consistently be working weekends, late nights, or on holidays. And it doesn't make someone a bad employee when they aren't consistently available for those times. - The folks who are in managerial roles are in them due to seniority rather than qualifications causing poor management and disorganization across many teams. This specifically causes employees on the support teams to be left to fend for themselves in times of trouble when their managers are unable to provide adequate leadership. - Many people who work at Apex only spend time with other people who work at Apex and those who have lives outside of Apex are often left-out of many opportunities including those available for career growth within the company.
