I worked at Amgen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    Good Salary
    Good Bonus
    Great Pension
    Nice Laptop
    Some Talented co-workers....some!!!

Finding it difficult to think of anything else.

    Cons

    Poor Management.
    No work/life balance
Meetings, meetings and more god damned meetings.
    Decision making is a joke
    Contractor's treated better than staff
Office politics and backstabbing is the norm.
No room for career advancement or cross over to different functional areas.
Big Pharma at its worse. Serves shareholders, not patients.

    Advice to Management

Promoting inexperienced employees to Management based on length of service is ridiculous. Many were out of depth. Managers lacked people and project management skills. Stop rewarding loyalty and hard work with layoffs. Profit is important but at what cost.

    Pros

Values and people are great, when focused on the science and the patients. Learned a lot.

    Cons

Like too many companies that get to such a size, there is dead weight and great talent, and the latest RIF really didn't distinguish between the two.

    Advice to Management

It's not all about the dollar cost savings...

I have been working at Amgen full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

It pays a salary. Great potential but will never go anywhere with the military attitude

    Cons

Aggressive micro managing senior management. No vision other than satisfy shareholders. And by the way that doesn't include patients no matter what they say.

    Advice to Management

    Retire

I have been working at Amgen full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

    - Nice benefits
    - Nice campus
    - Nice people

    Cons

    - Constantly downsizing / cutting costs
    - LOTS of contractors, who are clearly a lesser form of employee, just a big benefit dodge.
    - Higher levels / long time employees clearly have/make a ridiculous amount of money.
    - Currently converting to office of the future. Be aware if you don't like them.
