      Great place to work!

      Pros

The university has fought hard over the last several years to become more financially stable while still maintaining its values of innovative, high quality, student-first education. And it has worked. Our students are sharp, faculty are supported, and it truly feels like everyone wins. The university is able to truly support faculty in their teaching and research equally - something many colleagues in other universities struggle to find. It hasn’t always been this way - I’ve been here 15 years, and for the first 10-11 when resources were tight, everyone was forced to make sacrifices that made the job more challenging. But those days are truly in the rear view mirror. I’ve had many opportunities to go elsewhere over the years, many for more money or prestige, but I stay for my supportive colleagues and administrators, and bright, diverse students.

      Cons

The university is in the process of streamlining many of its back-end processes, mostly around student support. Sometimes artifacts from old, inefficient systems still linger and are annoying, but that’s changing.

      Disconnected leadership and disengaged staff

      Pros

Benefits, flexible schedule for the most part

      Cons

Constant changes to policies and procedures without communication, alot of inefficiency and decentralization of processes. Competent workers are given more work without adjustment to pay. Leadership is out of touch and there is a lack of diversity in leadership positions. It seems like only people in admissions or under the President are able to advance and be promoted. The University prides itself on diversity and inclusion but it's all performative. There is a new office of dei but no real impact is being made just PR opportunities.

      Pros

People that genuinely care about you. Little micro managing. Flexible work schedule. Manager is great at maximizing your skill set and believing in you.

      Cons

Little opportunities for advancement. No performance pay. Little opportunity for growth despite exemplary performance. Only way to get paid more is to get promoted.

      Pros

Focus on DEI from the very top with resources in place to support DEI goals University president is very transparent with information about university goals, operations, and budgets The University is small enough to feel like a family atmosphere, and large enough to be known in the community as an established university Great academic outcomes for students Great opportunities for professional growth and mobility as a part of the larger Bertelsmann organization Free tuition for employees and dependents

      Cons

No real cons, but sometimes decisions take a long time to come to agreement or be implemented when working in a shared governance system.

      Pros

Great collegial culture, with true focus on core values and inclusive mission/ vision. Centered on supporting and serving students so they can then make a positive and meaningful difference in our communities. Easy to feel proud of the work we do at Alliant. Amazing benefits. Even as a part time employee I received full benefits for my entire family. Another great perk is a very generous employee tuition waiver to further one’s own education. Great opportunities for professional growth.

      Cons

Low salary, underpaid for work done. Would like to see a more diverse senior leadership team. In some areas there can be limited internal career opportunities.
