I have been working at The American Legion full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

I didn't serve in the military but at almost 50 I now get to serve those that did!!!

I have DAILY interactions with our Veterans, involved in outreach programs FOR our Veterans, community outreach WITH our Veterans (most are still serving their country & communities), I make sure the operations are up to par with our government entities that sanction The American Legion & I get to enjoy Saturday nights eating, listening & dancing to live entertainment with our Veterans. Never had a job where I felt so valuable & appreciated as I do here!!!!!!!

    Cons

Yes, there is a lot of politics involved but it is sanctioned by Congress so what do you expect?!

    Application

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at The American Legion (Indianapolis, IN (US)) in July 2013.

    Interview

To be honest it was through a temp agency. But it wasnt anything intimidating. They asked basic questions that any temp agency wo0uld to find out basic information about you and your past. You also have to pass a drug test through pretty much any temp agency to get a job from one of the companies to choose from.
