Morgan McKinley – Why Work For Us?

Healthy Working Environment
We respect the work-life balance of our people while recognising that team spirit and a healthy working environment makes people good friends as well as colleagues. Our annual well-being week sees the global teams partake in 5 well-being focussed days with giveaways to win, healthy treats to enjoy, and external speakers / health professionals in our offices to give tips on living a healthier lifestyle!

Our Internal Events
All of our offices organise a variety of internal events throughout the year, and not a month goes by without one. For example, a regular end-of-quarter social event, Homegrown Talent Days, barbecue nights and the Tag Rugby Leagues (recruitment consultants are competitive by nature; you need to let off some steam now and again!)

Community / Charity
We all know the importance of putting back into the community that we live and work in. That’s why at every office we have around the world we all take the time to raise money and sponsor charities to help reshape our community.
At the start of 2016 we set ourselves a new goal: to enhance our CSR efforts across our global business. Our challenge as an organisation is to contribute the equivalent of a million euros to charities and worthy causes across the Morgan McKinley global footprint of offices by the end of 2018. We call it the Morgan McKinley Million.

In short it is about harnessing the collective goodwill and team spirit of our 800 people to do more by going beyond to improve the lives of others. In order for us to do this we have to push ourselves well beyond what we have done in the past.To put into context, this will be at least 10 times more than we have done in the last 3 years! So we organised teams in every country: Ireland, UK, France, China, India, Hong Kong, Japan, Singapore and Australia to really start planning, and on the 5th July 2016 we launched the initiative across our Global business.

From the UK to Australia and Tokyo to Singapore, we all participate in a range of events and fundraisers, and you can be a part of it too! We’ve partnered with charities such as Unicef (Hong Kong), Bliss (UK), Careers Ready (UK), River of Hearts (Shanghai), and Lou's Place (Australia), to name just a few. Our staff have participated in Nuts Challenge obstacle courses, Sorting Days, marathons, and bake sales to raise money for those in need.

Have a look at some of our events that we’ve done around the world and see how you could take part when you work at Morgan McKinley.

Kirstine Forrester

I am responsible for sourcing the best talent to join Morgan McKinley in Sydney and Singapore. We set out not just to be players but to be leaders in every discipline we operate in. Our ambition is to be bold and to challenge the status quo so I'm always looking to speak to ambitious individuals, regardless of experience level and specialisation, who want to be part of life at Morgan McKinley.

At Morgan McKinley we recruit first rate people who in turn recruit top talent for our clients. Our basic philosophy is to identify individuals with the right qualities to be great recruitment consultants, induct them in our Morgan McKinley values, and then empower them to serve, to specialise and to lead. If we decide to work together at Morgan McKinley it will be, first and foremost, because we believe you share the core beliefs and behaviours that are fundamental to our organisation:

undefined

Always Building Trust

“I always act with integrity and respect and do the right thing.” We build trust because our reputation depends on it, and our reputation means everything. The key word here is always. We always do the right thing.

Always Committed

“I believe in what we are doing and I give my best every day.”  We show commitment. That means we give our very best and we see things through. As a top racing driver once said, “To finish first, you must first finish.”

Always Communicating

“I engage in open, honest, two-way, timely communications internally and externally.”  We always communicate. With colleagues, with clients, with candidates. Above all that means listening. Sometimes the most important thing in communication is to hear what isn’t being said. Sensitivity and empathy are the keys to our success.

Always Embracing Change

“In an ambitious company, I recognise change is essential and I am open to it.”  We enjoy getting out of our comfort zone. There’s nothing “routine” about the way we do things at Morgan McKinley. Whereas our competitors will say “We’ve always done it that way”, at Morgan McKinley we say, “If you always do what you’ve done, you’ll always get what you’ve got.” Recruitment is a competitive business and this means we need to stretch beyond the traditional boundaries.

Have you ever thought about taking your career overseas? That's one of the great advantages of working in a business like ours, with it's scale and global reach. For anyone considering an international move, maybe not now, but perhaps in the future, you should speak with a member of our Talent Acquisition team. They can share their valuable knowledge and expertise about Morgan McKinley's various office locations globally, and talk you through the support provided by the company to help facilitate such moves.

We have many great examples of where an international move has enhanced someone's career. This video showcases the career path of Richie Holliday, Chief Operations Officer of our Asia Pacific offices, who is now based in Hong Kong. Richie is a prime example of someone who has been with the business since the start of his recruitment career.

He started with Morgan McKinley in 1999 as an entry-level associate in the role of Researcher - sourcing qualified accountants for the financial services sector in London. He quickly progressed through the ranks and by the time he left the UK in early 2007, he was an Operations Director. Richie moved to Hong Kong in April 2007 to manage the Morgan McKinley Hong Kong office which consisted of just 6 people at the time, but has now grown to over 50. Richie then progressed into a more strategic role to look after operations in Hong Kong and Japan, and to start up the mainland China office in Shanghai in late 2010. Subsequently he took on the regional responsibility for our APAC team, almost 250 staff currently, and continues to learn and be challenged everyday.

In this video Richie talks about the reasons why he chose to move to Hong Kong and the advice he would give to someone considering an international career move…

    Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Morgan McKinley.

    Interview

1-Telephone interview with internal recruiter after applying on line.
2-Face to face with team leader and manager, basic interview. CV breakdown, why recruitment, why MMK etc...
3-Behaviour analysis questionnaire via email, to see if you are suited to pressures that come with recruitment and to gauge how you will behave in different scenarios.
4-Presentation and interview with manager and director. During this you have to demonstrate how you will source candidates.

The interview process isn't so bad if you are well prepared. Have a good understanding of recruitment before hand. Also understand that you are applying for a sales role, they are looking for people with solid sales skills.

Found that the internal recruiter and the guys conducting the interviews were not singing off the same hymn sheet at times in terms of what was involved in the role. Also found that the director had no interest in the presentation during 3rd round, checked her phone a few times which was a bit off putting. But all in all it was a pretty average interview interview experience, they all seemed like decent people.
