APCO is quite a unique firm in the comms/lobbying consulting business. A good size (not too small but not too large) that gives you real career opportunities in a global network. A unique spirit and culture that allows for creative, fun and sometimes crazy people and lets you be who you are, in an industry that is often filled with clones repeating talking points. Interesting clients and work. A place where you can grow, or a great school that can be a stepping stone to an opportunity somewhere else.

Long hours and productivity requirements are very high, but this is the nature of consulting in general (where work life balance is more an idea than a reality). Quite centralized to HQ in terms of strategy, positioning and values (not much room for individual offices to pursue different approaches based on their own market's needs) - but overall nothing really strongly negative - it is a good company to join if you want to be a consultant.

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at APCO Worldwide.

I was approached by a recruiter for the role but wasn't sure it was an ideal opportunity until I went for interviews. Phones interviews were followed by onsite interviews with multiple job levels and business area focus, followed by a final more technical interview. I was impressed with the friendliness, openness, and professionalism of all staff in the interview process. They immediately put me at ease, made me feel welcome and were asked pertinent questions that cut through to see if I had the relevant academic and cultural fit, while also being open and honest about their own expectations and when answering my questions.

    • I was surprised by how they put me at ease and was asked questions relevant, and penetrating questions, as if just in typical conversation.   Answer Question
