Backbase, Amsterdam THE BELL Sarphatistraat 370 Get Directions
I have been working at Backbase full-time (More than a year)
Backbase is an awesome place to work if you are self-sufficient most of the time. The environment is awesome. It is relaxed, informal, and multicultural. People are easily approachable, from regular employees to VP. If they are not in a meeting you can easily talk to them.
It is a fast-paced company. Things change, and they change FAST. It is hard to keep up with so many different things going on in so many different parts of the company.
If you know where you want to go or where you want to be this is a perfect place for you.
You have to be self-motivated and pro-active to succeed here.
Maybe it is the Dutch culture but sometimes I feel a lack of human touch from the managers. It is good to hear from your manager what are your best skills, where you can improve, and what position your best skills would be used at its finest.
Not everybody can go on years without this human touch on their work, self-motivation can't be going on forever.
Sometimes a little recognition will boost the employee's performance and morale.
Advice to Management
A more personal touch to your subordinates.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Backbase (Amsterdam (Netherlands)) in July 2020.
Just to make it clear: I haven't received an offer yet, but if I get it I will probably accept.
I was referred by my former colleague.
First round was a short talk with the recruiter just as an introduction.
Then they sent me a test assignment. Normally they expect to complete it during a week but I didn't have much time and they allowed to take more days. It wasn't that complex and solutions can be easily found in github(for example), but I wrote my own solution, which is also open on github.
After I sent it back and they checked it they scheduled the the next round with 2 engineers. We went through the assignment and discussed some other programming aspects. Everything went smoothly and I have a very positive impression.
After that it was a last round with 2 developers managers. We were talking about ways of working, some principles and about software production in general. Was also a very good experience.
Currently I'm waiting for the feedback and decided to write a positive review even if I will not get an offer.
