After detailing the information on my resume, the HR person asked the standard "what did you like about the job?" followed by "what didn't you like about the job?" and then "what else didn't you like?" followed by what else didn't you like?" followed by "what else didn't you like about the job?"

The first couple answers were normal issues with the job. By the third question my response was "I don't know, there was this other thing" I thought of. After the fourth question I just scratched my head for literally 30 seconds to come up with an answer before saying something that I thought was benign. After the interview the recruiter informed me that I was negative about prior positions so I am totally confused about how to answer an interrogation. Less

This could have been an exercise of reaching to see 'how far' you/they can go, and ultimately break down your reservations about sounding professional when describing any personal grievances you had with previous employers. You want to remember that every experience, good and bad, is a learning opportunity. Most everyone you have worked for/with is, in their own way, doing the best they can. All else are 'statistics'. Don't be one of those. Don't become anxious about them asking, "If they're so great, why aren't you still there?" Your are not a robot, and they are a transcendental programmer. If they, and/or you. knew that you would be a better fit elsewhere, then both parties will benefit from your exploration. Give respect, expect respect. Less
