For a rather niche job function:
First phone screen with recruiter was pleasant and I was quickly moved on to the 2nd interview with the hiring manager <than a day later. Striking, wonderful, excitingly aligned conversation. Was told quickly I was exactly what they sought for the position. Thrilled! Was emailed an assessment/homework assignment that I spent ~20 hours on; took a risk and went well outside of the box. Excited and extremely positive feedback came a few days later and an onsite with 5 people individually was scheduled. Awesome! Ended up being 6 people; ~4.5 on the original agenda were impressive, jubilant, complimentary, and seemingly impressed. The sixth not impressed so much, I believe per one moderately off-the-technical-writing-wall question (that I actually had an answer to!). No offer made. Lots of time invested and nothing but highly positive feedback the entire way, including within the "Declined" phone call. Ah well.
