      Sales Development Representative (SDR) Interview

      19 Feb 2025
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Austin, TX
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TubeWriter (Austin, TX) in Dec 2024

      Interview

4 rounds of interviews. First was with an external recruiter that asked behavioral questions about my sales experience. Next two rounds were with an account executive and director of sales, both were more informal conversations where they asked about my sales background. Felt very confident after these 2 rounds as both of them mentioned that I was overqualified for the role, as I have 6 years of sales and lead management experience. Then you come into the office for a couple hours and meet with several people. I took off work for this as I felt very confident I would receive an offer. Overall everyone I met with was very friendly and made me excited about the opportunity to work there.... UNTIL I met with the CEO... I was prepared by one of the employees that he would ask some bizarre questions but I was not prepared to be belittled for having a part-time job, something I do for fun because I enjoy it, to be insulted for having worked for 3 different employers over 7 years, to be interrogated about my ability to commute 30 minutes to the jobs location, and to be told that my degree was not in a "scholarly field of study." My short experience with the CEO overall left a very poor taste in my mouth after he demanded to know exactly why I wanted to work there and then being made to feel ashamed for wanting a sales career so that I can be in a career where there are opportunities for growth and monetary rewards for working hard. I left the interview replaying in my mind where I went wrong before ultimately deciding that he was the problem not me and coming to the realization that if I did get an offer I would not be accepting it because I could not imagine working for such an insulting person. After a month of hearing nothing even though I sent several emails and thank yous I finally received a generic response from the recruiter that they selecting more highly qualified candidates. Which according to LinkedIn they are still searching so best of luck to them finding anyone willing to put up with that level of behavior in an interview for an entry level job.
