      Senior Android Developer Interview

      18 Jun 2024
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at TikTok in Apr 2024

      Interview

Totally unprofessional. After one of my rounds I was sent the wrong information. Then there was silence for along time and when I followed up I was told that information was meant for another candidate. After that I was told they would get back to me... which they didnt. When I followed up again they said anther person had planned to call me and they would follow up... again it didnt happen. After following up a third time, they just didnt reply, so in glassdoor terms I didn't get an offer, but in fact they just seemed to lose my application Also, my interviewer was combative, It was discussed that specific technology was not required for the job, the interviewer then grilled me on that tech when I told him I didnt have experience with it

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Hacker rank random questions. Unfortunately it picked a question with an obtuse 1000 word description where too much time was spent trying to process the description and figure out which parts were irrelevant while someone watched me, making for poor execution

      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at TikTok (Sydney) in Sept 2024

      Interview

The interview could benefit from a more structured approach. The introduction felt abrupt, and there were communication challenges due to the interviewer’s accent, which made it difficult to fully engage. During the coding round, I was asked to jump straight into the code without explaining my thought process, which left me unsure if my earlier responses had influenced this. It felt like there was little room to showcase my problem-solving abilities. Additionally, limited time was available at the end to ask about the role or team, and the responses I received were quite blunt.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

started the interview with these questions... * what will happen when you call a kotlin function which takes in a non-nullable parameter from a Java method and passes a null value * How is the performance of native components better than that of hybrid development? why is it suggested * you have a wheel that is running laggy on the UI. how do you check what is wrong?? (all of them are Ui components... so moving the code background thread is not an idea or can they? if so which part will you move?) * how do you improve the performance in the above scenario - what are the advantages of kotlin over java? - why did you start developing using jetpack compose?

      Question 2

another question is about finding the number of alphabets to insert into a string to make a string palindrome

      Senior Android Developer Interview

      27 Jul 2020
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at TikTok in Jul 2020

      Interview

My interviewer showed up on time on the video call, and we started with a problem on a coding site I had never used before. It was pretty clunky. He was interviewing me from China, night for me over in California. I confirmed with him that I understood the problem, but there were lots of gotchas with the half-assembled coding environment that made debugging hard. A lot of time was spent talking out my solution, and we're getting toward the end of the interview, and he reveals to me that I'm solving the wrong problem. At first I hadn't even seen the problem description, and when I did, I just glanced at it really quick, and confirmed with him that I understood it. 40 minutes into the interview, I realize that I was doing the wrong problem. Every time I asked him if I understood it correctly, he said "yes". I quickly threw something together that looked good to me and him, but not the right answer. After being on the call for over an hour I called it. Apparently he's an Android developer who doesn't know Kotlin at all, so my code was foreign to him. No Android questions, nothing to do with my day-to-day as an Android developer, no Kotlin, just an algorithms question that wasn't even communicated. If I had slowed down, ignored everything he said, and just read and reread the prompt, I'd be in better shape. He was a really nice interviewer; I felt like he was in my corner. But he does not have enough English experience to truly answer any question in an interview. Because of this, I kept trying to understand him, and he would try to answer again, but I never really understood what he was saying. From the other Glassdoor interview reviews here, I had heard it was a bad experience. And it was bad, but I knew they didn't have it together going in to it, so it wasn't a letdown when it was a disaster. I was expecting it, but still wanted to put my best foot forward, as everyone's experience is unique. The experience was a valuable one, and it showed me how little TikTok cares.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What I thought it was: given a 2d character array, determine if a word is in it (like a crossword) What it actually was: given a 2d character array, determine if a word is in it, but not necessarily in a straight line, and each letter may not be used more than once.
