Interviews at The Irish Times

I applied online. I interviewed at The Irish Times (Dublin, Dublin) in Dec 2022
Honestly, the process seemed to go OK and they were a nice bunch of people, but after the interview they let me know it would be a week until I heard back. Then I got an update to say it would be the next week... then nothing. They didn't even bother to send me a generic rejection. I had actually been offered a role somewhere more interesting just before the interview, so it was wotked out really well for me. I just think treating job seekers with that level of disrespect is awful.
- Really standard questions about platform use and ways of working.

Group interview with other candidates, where the group has to do an exercise and answer questions together. This was followed by second round with senior editors, which was more of a traditional interview.
- Why do I want to work there; past experience; five-year plans.

I applied through a staffing agency. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at The Irish Times (Dublin, Dublin) in Feb 2022
I was surprise and a little worried to see that there is not even a black-skinned decision maker. The interview was handled by the senior manager while the youngest HR didn't ask any questions. The salary offered was 10k lower than what other companies offer for the same role. I was contacted by a recruiter on LInkeIn because I have a background in sales and adverstising solutions, after waiting two weeks for feedback I was told that my motivation and attitude were good but that they were looking for someone with a background more as a recruiter (for an account executive position in sales).

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at The Irish Times (Dublin, Dublin) in Aug 2021
I applied for the graduate programme. Firstly I was asked to complete a writing assignment (had a choice between two). About a month later I was invited to interview. They asked me about my experience, journalists I admired, and what I would do in certain hypothetical situations (teamwork, finding leads for a story, etc.). Nice people, they answered all my questions about the nuts and bolts of the job. In the graduate programme you won't only work for The Irish Times but also other publications under the Irish Times Group on a rotational basis. My one quibble is that the recruitment process took a very long time - almost three months between sending in my application and the final decision.
- Who's a journalist that you admire?
- Have you ever run into conflict in an editorial role?
- How would you feel about relocating for the role, and how would you go about making new connections in a new city for a particular story?
- What is your proudest achievement?

Competitive process that involved the following stages Application Online Assessment Group interview Panel interview Final interview Disappointingly, no final call given post 5 stages after commitment made to revert and despite multiple follow ups. Interview held in Dublin office but given travel involved for many participants, surprised by no coat or bag storage facility at reception.
- Required to bring business proposals to interview

Focused on my understanding of the paper, their content, their readers and some of what I like about their product/favourite stories. They also gave me a task to complete, which involved analysing customer data to try and tell a story.
- What is one article from us that really stood out to you?
