      Technical Support Specialist Interview

      20 May 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Seattle, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in Mar 2015

      Interview

One word: Gaunlet. But fun! I promise. Hiring for Support, when I was there, was typically done in large groups. It went something like this: I was checked in and I underwent a brief screening to verify employment details. My past experiences, education, and what not. I was then led to a large conference room with beverages and light snacks. A senior employer would stay in this room with us this whole time and play random videos. Definitely meant to emphasize the funny-and-weird culture of Support. I was periodically called out of the room for other topical interviews. I went through a cultural interview wherein I was asked how I dealt with people, responded to anger or upset people, and general "are you an actual nice human being" questions. I also underwent two technical interviews. The first of which was the classic whiteboard interview. The other was a quickfire technical quiz. I was honest when I did not know answers and asked to be walked through the solutions I did not know. Interviewers seemed pleased.

      Question 1

When someone you are working with has an unexpected reaction - anger, sadness, the like - how do you respond?

      3 Jan 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Seattle, WA
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in Dec 2015

      Interview

It was an open session with multiple stages for the entire interview. There was food and drink offered since the whole process lasts up to three hours long. There was a background information bit at the beginning, written portion, technical test, cultural interview, troubleshooting test, and finally a more traditional interview. Everyone was very friendly, casual and accommodating. We were kept, usually in groups, in meeting rooms in between interview sessions.

      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Tableau Software (Seattle, WA) in Jun 2015

      Interview

I submitted an application online for an open interview, about 2 - 3 weeks later as expected I received a reply from recruiting and scheduled the interview online. Onsite I did a basic fact check interview, a communication skills test, a panel interview, a troubleshooting interview, and a rapid-fire knowledge test. The process was @ 3.5 hours, fast-paced but enjoyable.
