      Structural Engineer Interview

      2 May 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at TYLin (New York, NY)

      Interview

I submitted my resume online and was contacted by an HR Coordinator two weeks later for an initial phone screen (general confirmation of my education, current position, etc) and to schedule a phone interview with the supervising Project Manager three weeks after the screen call. Slightly before the scheduled interview, I received a call from the PM asking to reschedule as he was stuck in meetings all night (after 8PM, no less). It seems their office must be extremely busy right now because this became only the first reschedule of about four. When we finally spoke at length (on a weekend afternoon, three weeks after the initial appointment), the interview lasted approximately 20 minutes and mostly served to catalog the type of work I had performed in my current role (whether I had done concrete, steel, seismic, bridge, stadium/sports design, etc) and finally salary expectations for the position. Two more weeks went by without any contact, and when I reached out to HR again inquiring the status of the position, I received a very prompt but noncommittal answer. One more month passed and I learned by e-mail that the position has been canceled. The drawn-out nature of the process was pretty stress-inducing throughout the three months' wait, but I have come to accept that hiring can be a drawn-out affair in general.

      Engineer (Structural) Interview

      10 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      New York, NY
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TYLin (New York, NY) in Sept 2015

      Interview

Interview started about 30 minutes late. Interviewer was in the middle of conference calls. Came out to tell me he was running late. When we finally sat down he started asking very general questions about myself. Said the goal was to just see what I was like in person. Before things got too underway he was called into another meeting which lasted about 15 more minutes. Following our meeting the interview didn't show me around the office or introduce me to other employees. During the interview he said he was going to call me later that day to ask some more in depth questions and suggested an offer will be given and we agreed upon a salary. Phone call was pretty standard, asked questions about my experience in the design world. A few days later I sent am email asking to come back and view the office as well as meet other employees, however there was no response. Not long after I was sent an offer but it was roughly 25% lower than what we agreed upon during the interview.
