I applied in-person. I interviewed at Sur La Table (San Jose, CA)
Interview
I went to Open Interviews prior to a new store opening in California. The process was comparatively casual: Since the store hadn't opened yet, brief introductions between the hiring manager and supervisor were conducted at a table set up outside the store. I had written a terrific application letter, and submitted it along with a resume and the Company's written application form. It is probable that my comparatively open availability was the main factor which got me hired on the spot.

Question 1
Although open availability was not a hiring requirement, it was emphasized that the store opening would entail several days in a row of unloading pallets, stocking and merchandising. If I recall correctly, preference may have been given to applicants with greater availability.
Super quick and easy! All management levels in the store location were amazing and allowed you to feel comfortable! Definitely helps if you have some knowledge regarding brands and cooking to help customers.

Question 1
Would I be interested in growing within the company?
The interview is mostly about being yourself and seeing if you want to be part of a foodie minded team of part time co-workers. This group is like friends who work together and all have a common hobby. Just go in and be your genuine self, honest about your experience and availableity and see if what they offer matches what you need.
Lengthy and detailed they were trying to see if I was a good fit. I really wanted to work there but it was only to be closing the store because they were liquidating certain store locations in the east coast
