3 rounds of interviews.
1st with hiring manager: this was very general and went well but the hiring manager lacked experience in his current role with the company. I’m sure this will change over time but he kind of sounded like he really didn’t fully know what their products do yet.
2nd with additional designer: this was more of an interview where the person told me what they liked about working there and was very laid back but didn’t ask many meaningful questions. This person was also newer and didn’t fully know what their products do yet.
3rd group interview with designers, hiring manager, eng front end, backend eng and product manager : interview lacked any structure and was supposed to be a portfolio review. The team didn’t have many specific questions and most people were very new to the team. They also didn’t seem to have any knowledge of my portfolio in advance although it had been provided far in advance. Only one person their had over 6 months of experience at the company. This person had 5 years of experience at the company and seemed to be the most knowledgeable.
They wanted an explanation of process but it would have been better to do a role play and they have a scenario in advance to whiteboard or understand how the designer thinks about process in a creative manner. Had a few other interviews with other companies that did this on the fly and that was more reflective of an agile team and showed better how collaboration would be.
I wasn’t sure what they expected so it wasn’t very easy to explain my process to them.
