Two interviews - asked to create a 5-page PowerPoint for presentation during second interview. Would be nice if they offered feedback if not chosen for the position, but not totally expected.
After the presentation, I was given a tour by one of the interviewers, while the other two stayed in the office to discuss my presentation. During the tour, the interviewer asked me to "guess the nationality" of one of the IT workers. I replied with something like "I'm not even sure what to guess" and she replied with "Japanese! He met his wife online, she was a geisha, right?" Gasps around the office, and I felt so bad for the IT worker - you could tell he was very embarrassed, and kept saying "no, no, that's not true..."
What she disregarded as "I like to give people sh*t sometimes..." I, and seemingly the rest of the office, call blatant racism. That peek inside the culture of Shainin provides me some reassurance that it wouldn't have been a good fit anyways.
