I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at SUNY Buffalo (Buffalo, NY) in Feb 2013
Interview
There was no interview it was just given to me as a sort of grant based on enrollment. I did have a quasi-interview over the phone, but it was more or less why UB and the usual sort of stuff.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at SUNY Buffalo
Interview
Pretty laid back interview with most of the questions about soft skills (example would be how I would teach a student) and a few technical questions testing general knowledge and debugging.

Question 1
If a student came in with zero idea of what was going on in lecture, how would you approach teaching them?
Submit resume and cover letter to professors after receiving an initial email soliciting that you qualified for the role. It was impossible to apply for this position without the email.
The students are supposed to send the job application consisting of a resume, portfolio and a cover letter. There isn't necessarily an interview for the Teaching Assistantship position, just the portfolio, resume and cover letter describing why one is a better candidate to assist the professor compared to other students. The professor upon reviewing the overall profile will get back if they deem the student to be a good fit. However, they may even consider interviewing additionally as part of the process.
