I was selected for an initial 45-minute Zoom interview with a recruiter and progressed to the next stage. Prior to this, I had conversations with current employees via LinkedIn to learn about the company culture and the work. The current team demonstrates enthusiasm and passion about their work, but hesitancy and reservation about leadership.
The interview process paused for two weeks due to the unavailability of the hiring manager. Once it resumed, I was asked to complete three uncompensated assignments: a three-minute video outlining my inspirations and reasons for pursuing the role, a sample email response to an inquiry, and an additional five-minute video demonstrating knowledge of how their employee partners can engage. The extensive amount of unpaid work required felt exploitative and left me with reservations, yet I dedicated significant time and effort to complete everything within their specified timeline. This included well over 8 hours of preparation and editing.
Despite submitting all assignments on time and ensuring they met all requirements, I received a generic rejection email that provided no specific feedback on their decision-making process. It simply stated they were seeking a very specific skill set without specifying further details. The final stage would have involved an hour-long panel interview.
I am in agreement with the previous anonymous comment that not being selected to move forward in the process feels like a blessing in disguise.
