I applied online. I interviewed at Philips (Auckland, Auckland) in Jun 2024
Interview
I am absolutely frustrated of the interview process due to several reasons and I want to constructively criticize this way of selection most of the companies are nowadays opting and I would not recommend to any candidate investing their time that their fate is going to be decided by AI based interview (HireVue).
Reasons:
1. Lack of Personal Connection: Unlike traditional interviews, AI-based ones often feel impersonal. There's no human interaction, which can make it hard to convey your personality, enthusiasm, or soft skills. This can be particularly frustrating when you know these qualities are vital for the role.
2. Limited Feedback: After an AI interview, candidates typically receive little to no feedback. This leaves you in the dark about what went well or what you could improve, making the process feel like a black box.
3. Technical Challenges: Not everyone is comfortable with technology, and technical glitches or unfamiliarity with the software can negatively impact your performance. Even minor issues, like poor lighting or a faulty microphone, can skew the results.
4. Bias and Fairness: AI systems are only as good as the data they’re trained on, which can introduce biases. If the AI isn’t trained on a diverse set of data, it might unfairly disadvantage certain groups of candidates.
5. Stress and Uncertainty: Speaking to a machine without any real-time feedback can be unnerving. You don't know if you’re doing well or if the AI is interpreting your answers correctly. This uncertainty can add unnecessary stress to an already challenging process.
6. Reduced Opportunity for Nuance: In a traditional interview, you can read the interviewer’s body language and adjust your responses accordingly. With AI, this dynamic is lost, making it harder to gauge whether your answers are hitting the mark.
7. Efficiency vs. Effectiveness: While AI interviews are efficient for companies, they might not be the most effective way to assess a candidate’s true potential. It can feel like companies are prioritizing their own convenience over a fair and thorough evaluation of candidates.
