I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource in Jun 2018
Interview
I applied May 24th and received a call on June 4th to schedule an interview. I interviewed the next day (June 5th). I was asked to read a description of the employee duties and expectations and then asked if I would be able to fulfill these requirements. I was put into a role-play scenario where I had to “sell” the manager the shoes I was wearing. Questions were overall pretty general. The interview took about 15 minutes. Two days later (June 7th) I received a call for a second interview (June 8th) this time with a different manager from a different store. This was not so much of an interview, more of the manager describing a typical workday, dress code, telling me their expectations, showing me the system and how they keep track of employee sales. This interview took about 15 minutes. I got a call the next day (June 9th) from the first manager of the store I applied to saying I got the job and now needed to pass a drug test. I went in on June 11th to sign a form giving them permission to drug test me, and that same day I headed to the lab to take the drug test. I was told it would take up to a week for the results to come in. On June 15th I received a call from the manager saying my results came in, and now I start working on June 19th. My whole process took less than a month. *Note: I had no previous experience in retail sales before this. All of my previous work experience was in the food industry.
I passed and started quickly. The process was simple and not intimidating. Everything felt straightforward, and I would definitely recommend it to others looking for an easy experience. I enjoy working here.
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Payless ShoeSource (Anchorage, AK) in Aug 2025
