      Human Resources Business Partner Interview

      17 Feb 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Manchester, England
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Jisc (Manchester, England) in Jan 2016

      Interview

Very poor experience overall. Straightforward application process followed by interview and assessment. Assessment was about TUPE and redundancy consultation. The interview was unprofessional and took a particularly negative turn once the HRD found out I was on maternity leave, her face said it all (sex discrimination! Basic!) very patronising and negative tone. all of the questions had a negative tone, not designed to get the best out of candidates. It didn't feel like the kind of place I would want to work after meeting the HRD. First impressions count and I can see why they have received all of these negative reviews about bullying etc. It's also feels like they don't know what they are recruiting for, they advertised for a HRBP but then we're asking very detailed questions about the ins and outs of basic processes and writing job descriptions for recruitment etc, not the kinds of things I would associate with a HRBP role, more that of a HR Advisor. I was (not surprisingly) unsuccessful but no one bothered to tell me, I noticed the role re advertised and had to chase a number of times to get someone to confirm this to me, they also never bothered to provide feedback. I noticed the role has been advertised on and off for the best part of 9 months and not surprising if this is how they treat candidates! Good luck to whoever take this role on, it's not one I would have wanted to pursue, first impressions really do count and I had a lucky escape!

Thank you for your feedback. I’m sorry your experience wasn’t great, but really appreciate you telling us as it helps us to make the improvements we want to at Jisc. Things have moved on considerably in the last 18 months, particularly in recruitment as we realised this was an area that needed improvement. We’re modernising our processes and approach, streamlining them where possible, and are providing training to all our people managers on how to ensure the recruitment experience is professional, but friendly and positive for all involved. You’ll also be pleased to hear that we’re no longer using application forms! We love to hear feedback (the good and the bad!) so if you would like to discuss this with us further, please do not hesitate to get in contact with Louise our Resourcing partner (louise.mitchell@jisc.ac.uk)
