Curriculum Consultant (English Language Arts) Interview

      5 Jan 2022
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Salt Lake City, UT
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Instructure (Salt Lake City, UT) in Dec 2021

      Interview

Completed a 20 minute phone screener which I passed, and was then given a "homework assignment" to complete in a week, after which I was promised an interview to go over the project with a member of the team. The project was easy, but time-consuming. They gave me two passages, two different grade levels, with 6-10 standards for each, and I had to write an 8-10 question assessment for each passage using different standards, DOK levels, and different item types. It took me about 12 hours to complete. I submitted it the day before it was due after making sure it was perfect. I didn't hear anything for three days, and then I get a generic rejection email. Afterwards, I notice on the project description there is a tiny line of text that says Instructure has the right to use any material I created for them. I think they just scammed me into working for two days for free. It's so insulting to not even give me the chance to walk a team member through what I created, and the fact that they now own what I made for them? I am absolutely furious. This should not be legal. I am considering reporting them to the Department of Labor. It's not only unprofessional - it's labor exploitation.

      Question 1

20 minute phone screener (easy) and a 10+ hour project. Was promised an interview to discuss said project, and then received a generic rejection letter.
