      Specialty Sales Associate Interview

      12 Aug 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Edmonton, AB
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Home Depot Canada (Edmonton, AB) in Aug 2008

      Interview

The process is rather extensive. There is a telephone interview, then a face to face interview, then a roll play that follows the face to face, then another interview with a different manager. The last stage is to meet with the store manager who has the paperwork beside them, and they ask a couple more questions and if they like what they hear then they present you with the job offer.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The most difficult is the ones that come from the store manager at the end as they are speaking off the cuff, without a script, and often being lead by their own personal prejudices.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Home Depot Canada (Calgary, AB) in Jul 2014

      Interview

There is a screening questionnaire during the online application process - I didn't hear anything about it again. Then there is a phone interview, and if you are suitable, they even email you interview tips. Then I got a call from the store level HR manager, and set up an in-person interview. It was quick and organized, conducted by the HR manager and the Department Supervisor. There was the usual review of employment history, skills, related qualifications. Nothing out of the ordinary at all. They were very open to answering questions about why it was a great place to work and what could be expected during an average day. I now know that they have a script to follow - they present several hypothetical situations and ask what you would do, and rate your responses. If you read up on the value wheel on the website, and answer the questions in such a way that your responses are in line with the values, your will rate highly even without related experience.

      Question 1

How can you translate your skill set to our workplace? Why do you want to work here?
