      CAM Engineer Interview

      3 May 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Poway, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at General Atomics (Poway, CA) in Apr 2016

      Interview

This was my 3rd interview with GA as a company not for this same position. This time, my interview was set up as one on one with 6 interviewers. The first 2 were recruiters for 30 minutes, next 2 interviewers were CAM Engineers for 15 minutes each and last 2 interviewers were managers for 30 minutes each. The interview with recruiters were boiler plate Q/As to show what GA is about. The next 2 interviewers with CAM engineers were interesting. One of them specifically called engineers as d-word. It was then I realize he does not like engineers at all despite his new title is a CAM engineer. I reviewed his LinkedIn profile to notice he has no experience in engineering let alone qualification as a CAM or Project Control Analyst. He was recently hired 5 months ago and expect to know what engineers do in an organization despite how to conduct an interview professionally. He did not even bring a copy of my resume to the interview for a reference. I had to give him mine. He definitely shows his youth from his behavior and makes me wonder how he got hired in the first place base on his inexperience and history. The last 2 interviews with managers went well but gave me a sense they may lack understanding of Earn Value Management System. Overall, it appears the entire team were inexperience and young. They need someone with experience but someone at their own age bracket and lifestyle. It felt like college or high school attitude meant more to get hired for this job than knowledge and skills. Let's play us verses them game mentality. It appears the whole team cannot communicate or understand engineers hence the problem to find a CAM engineer to help them. I was not offered the position due to my engineering background. Hence, they want someone with no engineering background to help them solve the problem by hiring people who don't understand engineers. Hmm, that is a problem on its own that they don't see it themselves.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

How would you deal with d-word engineers you do not agree with?
