I applied online and was contacted by the Manager via LinkedIn directly. She scheduled a phone call interview on the same day and it was a very positive conversation. I then went through 1 HR + 2 more video call rounds with the senior manager. All of these rounds were very positive. The total interview process took about 3.5 weeks. However, in the final round of interview, the hiring manager mentioned that they may have to let go of a good candidate since they may have to hire someone in Washington, DC (their HQ) and may not be able to hire in Plano, TX. I was shocked as to why was this role posted in Washington and Plano both if they could hire only in Washington. After the final round of interview, the HR sent me an email saying that their conversations with me have been very positive and they will make a decision soon as they are interviewing other candidates as well. I did not hear back from them for a week and so I followed up on the status of my candidacy. Both the HR and the hiring manager did not respond to my follow up email. I finally heard back from them after several days saying they made an offer elsewhere. If I lose an opportunity due to the mismatch between my skills and hiring team's requirements, then it is completely fair and acceptable. However, losing an opportunity because they were not able to hire in Plano, TX even though the role was posted for that location is completely unacceptable and unprofessional. I wasted 5 weeks in the process.
