      Graphic Designer Interview

      3 Oct 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Bloomington, IN
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Cook Medical Inc (Bloomington, IN) in May 2010

      Interview

Cook is notorious with having a very slow hiring process. Part of this is due to the fact that so many people are involved with hiring process and managers are often busy or traveling. Also, HR has a lot going on and tends to be slow. Expect the entire process to take 1-2 months. Usually a month. From my experience you will be contacted by HR a few weeks after you submit your application (maybe sooner depending on how urgent the need is). If you are out of town you might have a call but they usually like to have face to face interviews here. You will come in for an interview usually in the morning and depending on what department you are interviewing for you will meet with several people at different times. And you will typically have a sit down interview with your immediate team at the same time. Everyone is super nice and relaxed at Cook, so the interviews are pretty conversational. There will be direct business questions but also a lot of getting know you as a person. You may also get a tour of the facility or where you will be working which is nice. Everyone is super friendly so that helps put you at ease. After the first in-house interview you may not hear back from anyone for a few days to possibly a few weeks, depending on the number of applicants, how busy they are etc. But Cook is very good about telling you in person when they will hear from you, so that's helpful. You may have a follow-up phone interview with a manager or colleague you didn't get to meet in person. So typically after 4-6 weeks you will hear from HR whether or not you have an offer. If you do receive an offer, HR will mail you a package that you can read through and gives you the complete break-down of salary, benefits and start date. From there you can negotiate with HR and generally you will also have a managerial contact that you can email with any questions about the role or salary. If negotiations are taken care of they will mail you the contract that you can sign and either mail back or give to HR in person.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Some managers like to throw abstract questions out (especially in marketing) like if you were a color what would you be? Also, a lot of the male managers enjoy talking about sports so you may get asked what your favorite team is or conversing about fantasy football.
