I applied through university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at CNN (New York, NY) in Sept 2024
Interview
Be brief. Be bright. Be gone. You are unlikely to pass this interview unless you grew up with extreme privilege. You need to be someone who fits the correct mold I.e. have gone to an elite middle/high school, have gone to an ivy or pseudo ivy-league undergrad institution and then have been fed through the McKinsey, Bain or BCG analyst pipelines. This is a strategy role. If you have any real material depth of industry knowledge, experience, or technical acumen it’s going to be unhelpful in the interview. The interviewer had already made up in his mind that I was a bad fit for the role before he even spoke with me. My advice would be to say as little as possible, and don’t go into any depth of detail when giving responses to the hiring manager.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Asked to effectively do a case study in the middle of the interview. Do top down framing/analysis. I was asked to tell about a failure, and then the interviewer used it against me and said that I would be a bad fit for the role despite explaining how I would’ve corrected and done something differently in the future and how there were learnings from the failure moment.
