      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian in Jan 2015

      Interview

      1. Approached by internal recruiter on LinkedIn. 2. Phone interview with recruiter. 3. Video interview with hiring manager. 4. Portfolio walkthrough + Video interview with hiring manager. 5. Design test – done remotely. 6. Video interview with hiring manager plus another Design Manager. (I live very far away from Sydney where the company is at so this is why all of this was done remotely.)

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Atlassian (Sydney) in Oct 2025

      Interview

Atlassian has a pretty long, confusing and acting-pricey interview process even without it being a FAANG. The process is 4-stage process. 1. Recruiter interview - which goes into the details of your work experience, and answers questions about the role. This is honestly the most helpful interview ever, and it goes downhill post that. 2. Hiring Manager interview - 60 minutes of 1:1 HM interview, where you are expected to show a case study and answer a barrage of unrelated questions from the hiring manager. You typically get zero to 4 minutes to answer any questions you have. Atlassian folks always will remind you that the interview will end on time without showing up on time in the first place. 3. Panel interview + 1:1 interviews - Two case studies expected and two follow up interviews on Product thinking and People Management. There are absolutely no guidelines given around what's expected from the hiring manager. Atlassian takes 'we don't give feedback' rule very seriously and expect candidates to read the hiring manager's mind and take a shoot in the dark with their interview prep. The 1:1 interviews are again a barrage of questions from the interviewers without any scope for you to ask any questions whatsoever. Seems like a one-way process throughout. 4A. Triad interview with a product & engineering peer. It is again extremely misguided and confusing an interview. There are absolutely no rubrics shared with you as a candidate on what to expect. 4B. Values interview - what even are these, expect another barrage of questions around 'Tell me about a time... " situations. At the end of the process, you are tired, burnt out by trying to take a shot in the dark across the numerous interview rounds and you still haven't had a chance to ask any questions, get to know the product or any of your peers through the interview process.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      - A lot of focus on 'craft' without defining how Atlassian defines craft in the first place. Guess they don't know either looking at the state of the products they design.
