I applied online at the Allstate website. I got a call a week later from a recruiter that gave a brief screening phone interview. He asked a couple questions about work experience and a situational/behavioral question in which I had to give a real life example from my experience. He then said he was going to forward my file to the hiring manager, and they would contact me about an interview. In the meantime I had to take an online assessment that tested skill/behavior which took about an hour to complete. You get the results immediately, and it said I passed.
Two days later I got a call to set up an in-person interview, and the interview was with two managers from the department. The managers were extremely friendly and courteous and made the process comfortable. They asked questions in which they give you an example of a situation, then you tell them a real life example of how you handled or demonstrated it. They warned that you could not use the same example twice, so it was important to choose the examples carefully. I prepared for the interview by thinking about several examples beforehand on how I demonstrated leadership, exemplary customer service, teamwork, etc. so I wouldn't stumble thinking of examples off the top of my head. The Interview was 5 or 6 questions and I was also able to ask questions about the position and they were very informative about the company and expectations. After the one-on-one interview I was able to sit with a claims adjuster for about 15 minutes and ask whatever questions I wanted about the job, their experiences, etc and I got a much better better idea of the position, the work culture, and the morale in the department. After that, they wanted me to meet the head manager, but she was out so I came back later in the week to meet her. The meeting was very informal, and I got to ask more questions and she explained more about Allstate and my overall impressions. My impressions about their department was that everyone was really close and supportive of one another, and I knew if I joined I would be welcomed.
A week later I got a call with an offer, pending the outcome of my background check and drug screen. The screening took exactly 10 business days and then I had the all clear to start.
