After all that, the company conducted long interviews with my references, which is highly unusual for a non-executive or senior position.
Ultimately, I was informed that the team was “going in a different direction” and the position was closed — suggesting that there was no clear hiring plan from the start. The process lacked internal coordination, clear communication, and basic respect for candidates’ and references’ time. On a possitive note, at least they let you know so no time is wasted any further.
