      Technical Program Manager Interview

      21 Nov 2013
      Anonymous interview candidate
      San Mateo, CA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Akamai (San Mateo, CA) in Jul 2013

      Interview

I had one phone screen followed by onsite interviews. The phone screen lasted only 20 minutes and the questions were relatively easy. I had the impression that the interviewer was not really paying attention. I was surprised when they called me for the onsite interview in San Mateo, CA. I was interviewed by the hiring manager and two other program managers based in Cambridge MA via video conference. The question were all situational related to program and project management. The second half was with a development manager and the configuration manager based in San Mateo. The development manager was interested mostly in how I would implement Agile within the development teams that are attached to waterfall. The interview with the Configuration Manager was terrible. He was not the right person to interview a Program Manager. He made inappropriate comments like 'why do you program manager get paid so much?' He had little idea what the position was about. It seemed like the team in Cambridge was keen to hire a Program Manager in San Mateo. However the team in San Mateo was reluctant to have someone forced on them. And I felt like I wasted my time with them.

      Technical Program Manager Interview

      31 Jan 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Akamai in Feb 2022

      Interview

Process was chaotic, poorly communicated, and overall frustrating. Was chosen for a job that seemingly disappeared and then was told I’d have to reapply to work under a separate manager. Many repeat, anecdotal questions in the interview and just a long and daunting process. I ended up declining a second interview panel because I felt my time as an applicant was not respected, so likely my time as an employee wouldn’t be either. All employees seemed to love their work though! Just generally too gate-keepy and popularity contest feeling for me.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Akamai (Kraków) in Apr 2020

      Interview

Overall interview process was planned for 4 stages. I was ghosted out after 2nd meeting. First, there was standard HR phone screening with intro about the company and particular role. I was informed about recruitment process and asked for financial expectations. Second interview was held by someone on similar position. Most of the questions was based on my experience and requirements for the role specified in job add. I was informed that feedback should be provided within 2 weeks. After 2 weeks without any further info, I've sent some follow up emails to HR, however never received any reply. Overall, I got ghosted in the unpleasant way.

      Technical Program Manager Interview

      21 Apr 2017
      Anonymous employee
      Cambridge, MA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Akamai (Cambridge, MA) in Feb 2017

      Interview

Process was straight forward - phone screen with a manager then a full-day in-person interview day. l enjoyed meeting with the team and they were very open about the team, company, etc. Very refreshing to have a human conversation with your future team and really get to know what it will be like working with them rather than sitting in a room answering cookie cutter questions. They still asked important questions about my technical and management experience but did it in a way that felt like a conversation rather than a test

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

      1) Tell me about a time... xyz - disagreement between team members, a plan changed, etc. 2) Tell me about a time you had to solve a technical hurdle that may not have been identified by the engineers Personally I wasn't asked technical questions about DNS but I would highly recommend knowing your stuff when it comes to how the internet works, nameservers (all types - authoritative, recursive, top-level DNS, etc), networks, what happens when you hit enter in a browser, how a page is rendered/DOM loading order, ip addresses, etc
