      Software Developer Interview

      19 Aug 2019
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a staffing agency. I interviewed at Accu-Time Systems in Jun 2019

      Interview

My resume was sent to them through a staffing company. The first step was a video interview with 1 person in the company. This interview felt fairly straightforward. A couple questions that tested basic knowledge of programming and then a description of the rest of the hiring process. I think they also asked if I knew what the company does. Don’t make it too complicated, just say that they make devices that allow employees to clock in and out of work. It was expected to be 40 minutes but it was only around 20 minutes. It was implied that it would’ve been longer but I didn’t have experience with some of the tools that they were going to ask about. After that, they sent me a programming assessment in Java to be completed within 24 hours. It was something like to “determine if there are 4 connected blocks with a true value in a 2D Boolean array.” Pretty similar to what the android developer on here wrote. You’re able to use whatever resources you want. I was able to complete it although my solution felt a bit messy and I’m not sure if I did it the way they wanted me to (it seemed like a DFS problem but I did something else). I haven’t heard back since submitting a while ago and the staffing company explained to me that the person in charge of hiring at Accu-Time Systems went to a different position in the company and the new guy was still getting situated. It seems like they were letting me down gently. The next step would’ve been to talk to have a video chat with the development team.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Accu-Time Systems

      Interview

The process consisted of two coding competency assignments and an in person interview. The coding assessments were entertaining, and the in person interview was friendly and yet professional. The interviewer asked some technical questions, but mostly wanted to guage my commitment to ensuring quality.
