I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at 23andMe (Mountain View, CA) in Jun 2019
Interview
I applied for two different positions at 23andme, and had a series of phone and in-person interviews over a three month period. These included phone screeners with a recruiter, phone conversations with people previously in the position, phone conversations with the hiring managers, and onsite interviews with a panel of team members. The entire process was engaging, clear, and courteous. Each interviewer (a total of 10) came prepared with interesting questions, and with a clear intention to get to know me. They were respectful of my time, and ensured that I was set up for success with water, breaks when I needed, and a pre-interview preparation guide.

Question 1
Describe a conflict you have had with a colleague. How did you get through it? What might you do differently next time?
The phone call was a breeze but the second interview was on zoom, and she seemed unprepared and bored, but at the same time kind? It was okay and the normal basic questions were asked.

Interview
Recruiter reached out to me for a phone screening, she missed the meeting so I followed up with an email and she pushed the meeting a couple hours so I accommodated. The screening went okay, she sounded a little disorganized but stated I would be hearing back from the hiring manager on Monday (had the screening on Friday) Monday rolls around and I didn't hear anything so a couple days later I followed up and was ghosted. I followed up one more time and she got back to me saying I would hear back in a couple days, a week goes by and nothing so I follow back with her and I was ghosted again. I had actually applied for another position and she reached out for a screening on that position and I emailed her back asking about the previous one and I was then ghosted again. It was an extremely frustrating process.

Interview
The entire interview process went incredibly smooth. HR was very on top of communicating with the interviewee to keep them updated with the timelines and feedback, which I greatly appreciated. I wasn't local, so the process may have been a bit longer than local candidates:
- 2 phone screens/interviews with team members
- 1 phone interview with HR
- 5 on-site interviews (including one of the previous phone screening interviewers and a lunch)
- 1 final call with the department VP
Their process was one of the best ones I have experienced; everyone was nice and dedicated to their work, which was reflected in their energy when I asked questions.

Question 1
Questions ranged from behavioral to inquiring about past experiences. Questions weren't too hard and aimed to get a grasp of personality/fit with the company and team.
