Does NC Department of Public Safety have a pension plan?
Pros
Consistent paycheck. Pension if you can make it 25-30 years. Job security.
Cons
Just about everything else. - Big good ole boy system in place. Same crappy officers get away with everything just because their sergeant is their fishing buddy outside. Really good workers get thrown under for every little transgression or mistake. - No union or job protection. Supervisors and management can do to you as they please. - Can cut you off from overtime earnings for any reason including spite. - Health plan is a joke and they won't pay any of the premium for your spouse. Also the joke of a health plan won't pay for many services including ct scans and MRIs. - Pension is a joke. Unless you bust out massive amounts of overtime for 4 years straight you'd be lucky to get $1200 a month in retirement pay after a full career of BS. - Promotions are a joke and rely heavily on the good ole boy system. - Offers plans such as the 457 and 401k to supplement pension but will pay you dirt ball salaries so you cannot put any money into the plan thus defeating the purpose. - $36,598 a year to deal with the BS. - With no collective bargaining in place, have to beg legislation every two years for a raise and be lucky to get 2 percent of some insult of that nature. - Hiring process is a joke and they hire officers who cannot even run. - Management and leadership extremely pro convict and will bury officers just for doing their jobs. - poor life and work balance. If you still choose this laughing stock of a DOC.... Good luck. You'll need it.
Advice to Management
Shut up and listen to your staff.
Offers plans such as the 457 and 401k to supplement pension but will pay you dirt ball salaries so you cannot put any money into the plan thus defeating the purpose.
