How are senior leaders perceived at Emma?

Pros

Steep learning curve Strong culture of challenging the status quo Ownership from day one You are in charge of the process

Cons

There are still some politics/favoritism here and there: Overall, if you don’t speak during a meeting, you are perceived negatively even when you bring results in. But sometimes the culture can be “challenging ideas” just for the sake of it/to please upper management.

Advice to Management

Don’t take it against certain individuals for not “speaking up enough” during meetings. Ask yourself if you have given them the chance to speak first. Sometimes in a meeting, so many people are competing to have a say in things, and some individuals don’t even get a chance to speak (also because someone else beat them to what they wanted to say). Strong diversity in terms of nationality, but poor in terms of gender equality. As you climb higher up, you will see that upper management is predominantly male. On this note, there are not enough opportunities for employees to move higher up in leadership positions. Emma keeps looking outside to hire people instead of developing their current employee base. This leaves employees stuck in their current roles for a long time or be moved only laterally.

But sometimes the culture can be “challenging ideas” just for the sake of it/to please upper management.
