What Employees Say
I have been working at D. E. Shaw & Co. - Investment Firm full-time
Amazing infrastructure and work culture.
Mostly will be working on the same project for longer time.
I worked at Bridgewater Associates full-time for more than a year
The benefits, health insurance, and salary. Working with exceptionally bright people (some of whom are awesome, some of whom are d$cks, like anywhere else) that raise the bar for you. Ruthless... self-improvement.
If you resist the culture, and don't agree with it, you're going to have a tough time adjusting. There's a reason there's a 4 week Boot Camp before you start working. At the same time, don't think... everything said in Boot Camp is the equivalent of Moses' tablets. There's a reason they hired you in the first place, so don't completely lose who you are and the value you're meant to bring.
Advice to Management
The meritocracy should extend from the ideas to opportunities. Retention bonuses and allowing people to work from home more than 1 day a week (current company policy as far as I know) do a huge... positive number on morale. Make it simpler for your employees to find out about other roles available within the org.
