What does a Technical Trainer do?

Technical trainers design, develop, implement, and evaluate technical training programs. They prepare lesson plans, course outlines, schedules, and assignments. They identify the main objectives and skills or concepts that participants need to learn. They explain key concepts and principles, and create assignments or hands-on activities to allow students to develop practical skills. Trainers also work in close collaboration with other internal teams and stakeholders to develop course content and goals. They establish metrics for determining course outcomes and participant performance.

Technical trainers typically have at least a bachelor’s degree in their field of expertise, although an advanced degree is an asset. They should have experience developing and leading training programs or teaching in some capacity. They must be able to make technical or complex material interesting and engaging.
